This Tennessee Town Is Perfect for a Winter Weekend of Skiing and Spa Treatments

Winter in Tennessee can be anywhere from mild to wild, especially if you head to the Smokies, where the elevation can really make for some unpredictable weather. If you are hoping for snow, then you should know that Ober Mountain is the one place you can always rely on for a winter wonderland. As the state's only ski resort, you can hit the slopes with some of the best views in the area. Then when you're done, we have a special spot to rest your head for the night after enjoying a nice steamy hot tub to warm you up from all the cold weather fun. So, for some awesome winter fun, head to Gatlinburg for a snowy adventure.

Ober Mountain is the perfect place for winter fun. Everything you could want and more is located within the glorious mountains of Gatlinburg. Take the gondola ride up the mountain from downtown to enter an enchanting winter wonderland unlike anywhere else in Tennessee. Once you are there, you can hit the perfectly manicured slopes with your skis or snowboard. There are plenty of trails ranging in difficulty, so there is something for everyone, whether this is your first time down the mountain or you are an expert on the slopes. 

If you prefer to trade the skis for an intertube then head on over to the sledding hill. Feel the rush as you zoom down the 350-foot hill at thrilling speed. When you are done with the run, head to the outdoor escalator (referred to as the “Magic Carpet”) to take you up to the top once again. Gone are the days when you have to trudge through the snow just to get another ride, so you can make the most of your time sledding. They also offer unlimited tubing tickets, so you can stay all day long if you would like. 

Skiing and tubing alone are enough to make your winter special, but that is just a taste of what is offered at Ober Mountain! Strap on a pair of skates to glide around the ice rink with your friends. This huge arena is right in the heart of the winter activities and is open year-round. So, if you want a little wintery fun in the summer, this is a great place to go. The ice rink is also where you will find a rather unique winter attraction. The Ice Bumper Cars are a great addition, allowing guests to slide, crash, and zoom around the ice in these specially made cars. There is no doubt plenty to see and do on top of this incredible mountain. 

As great as it is on Ober Mountain, eventually, the day will come to an end. But just because the daylight hours fade away doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. You are in Gatlinburg after all and it's one of my favorite places in Tennessee! So there's plenty more to see and enjoy.

The view is especially sweet from the cozy warmth of the living room as you eye the scenery from the large picture windows.
