The Most Quintessential New England Town Is Wickford Village, Rhode Island

Wickford Village in Rhode Island is a charming historic village known for its picturesque streets, shops, restaurants, and annual art festival.

Rhode Island may be a small state, but it's filled with charming small towns with a lot of, history and culture. It's simply one of the perks of being one of the oldest states in the union, and it's something we don't take for granted. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a small town more enchanting... and more decidedly New England... than Wickford Village.

Wickford is a tiny village situated in the town of North Kingstown.

These picturesque streets are quiet, family, and undeniably enchanting.

Wickford was originally established in 1709 as a fishing village, although it spent some time as a trading post in the 1600s.

Its location on Narragansett Bay in a protected cove was absolutely perfect.

These days, Rhode Island's favorite historic village is known for its shops, restaurants, and annual art festival...

... but if you're a history buff, you'll absolutely love it.

Many of the houses here are designated historic sites that were built in the late 17th or early 18th centuries.

There are several churches and chapels in the area that go back several centuries as well.

Whether you've never visited Wickford or it has simply been awhile, consider visiting wickfordvillage.org before you go and downloading a PDF of the walking tour. You can also listen to the audio.

Walking through this historic village often feels surreal.

It's strange seeing old buildings and graveyards that were established before our country's official birthday.

This may be a small village, but there are plenty of things to do, see, eat, and experience.

No wonder even lifelong Rhode Islanders can't seem to get enough of this place.

Wickford Village is a wonderful place to visit in any season. If you're interested in taking a self-guided walking tour (otherwise known as a social distancing stroll), you'll find more information here.
