Forget the A/C, at least for a day or two this summer. Instead, indulge in what just might be one of the most leisurely ways to stay cool during the sweltering days of summer. Let your feet dangle in the cool water as you meander along the Clarion River, the lush trees and wildlife of Cook Forest passing you by. Sound good? Then, start planning your trip to go tubing in Pittsburgh.
Cook Forest State Park, a natural playground for outdoor enthusiasts, promises plenty to do - from hiking and wildlife watching to kayaking and tubing.
Up for a day of Pittsburgh tubing? Then, Pale Whale Canoe Fleet - which offers tubing, canoeing, and kayaking - has got you covered.
In fact, all you have to do is gather your friends and head to the Pale Whale Canoe Fleet, where you can park your car, rent your tubing gear, and hitch a ride to the Clarion River.
Choose from one of two inner tubing trips. The first, which lasts between 2.5 and three hours, will take you on a 2.5 mile journey down the Clarion River.
Or, go for the four mile trek, which typically takes between four and five hours.
Either way, you're in for a relaxing adventure on the water. (Tubing trips are generally not offered until late May or early June.)
So, who will you bring on your Pennsylvania tubing adventure? Children two and older are permitted. However, kids 12 and younger must be with an adult.
All children are required to wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), although Pale Whale recommends all guests wear one as a precaution.
Ready for a lazy ride down the river? Good news. Reservations are not required. However, tubers must register with Pale Whale by 2 p.m. for four mile trips and by 3 p.m. for 2.5 mile trips.
Nothing will make your summer more complete than this relaxing, all-day float trip. Pale Wale Canoe Fleet is located at 115 Riverside Dr., Cooksburg, PA 16217.
