Located in the northeast corner of Oregon, Wallowa Lake is a magical place that makes for an unforgettable day trip. This gorgeous, crystal-clear lake is an amazing place for swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, and more. But that's not all -- it's also home to the Wallowa Lake Tramway, a lovely gondola that will take you all the way to the top of one of the Wallowa Mountain's most beautiful peaks. You won't soon forget a day trip at this stunning destination in Oregon, so gas up the car and get ready to embark on the best day trip in Oregon.
Tucked into the foothills of the magnificent Wallowa Mountains, Wallowa Lake is an enchanting hidden gem in eastern Oregon.
There's so much to do and see here -- you can boat, fish, swim, have a picnic, or simply relax on the shore and take in the majestic views.
When the sun is shining, this place is basically paradise.
Not only is the lake beautiful -- the whole area is simply spectacular. At the edge of the lake you'll find the Wallowa Lake Tramway. Hop on board and take an unforgettable ride to the summit of Mount Howard.
The views from the gondola will drop your jaw.
From the top of Mount Howard, you can see for miles and miles.
You'll also have the rare experience of seeing the wild, rugged peaks of the Wallowas close up. When you get off the tram, you'll find an easy walking trail that circles the summit of the mountain, as well as a uniquely-placed restaurant where you can stop for lunch.
Just a few miles from here is the charming, artsy town of Joseph. While you're in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by and exploring this lovely little town.
If you want to stay longer than just one day, there are a number of great inns and B&Bs where you can stay the night.
