There’s A Tiny Town Near Portland Completely Surrounded By Breathtaking Natural Beauty

It is not hard to find loads of natural beauty in Oregon. We are literally surrounded by it! However, if you want a truly memorable experience in nature, consider a trip to the sleepy town of Estacada for an amazing time communing in the forest.

Located just 30 miles SE of Portland, Estacada is home to just over 2,500 residents. Milo McIver State Park, pictured here, is a big draw to this small city completely surrounded by nature.

Incorporated in 1905, Estacada was originally developed to serve as a camp for workers building a hydroelectric dam on the Clackamas River with the intention of supplying Portland with power. The dam gave rise to the logging industry, and soon it became the area's hub for logging.

Surrounded by the Mt Hood National Forest on the north and east, Eagle Creek on the west, and Springwater to the south, there is natural beauty everywhere you turn.

Milo McIver State Park is a big draw for nature enthusiasts, but Metzler Park is also close by and offers stunning views in nature.

Tree farms are plentiful in the area, creating a beautiful canopy for your exploration.

Rivers abound, and you are a short drive from both Bagby Hot Springs and Austin Hot Springs when in Estacada.

The Clackamas River offers some quality fishing, though you might have some competition with the birds like this kingfisher.

As far as views go, this close-in, yet so far away town provides some of the best around.

No need to rush out of town when your nature exploration is complete. A growing arts community has enabled this small city's growth in recent years, and you most certainly can enjoy a lovely meal in this small town. Harmony Bakery is great, as are Fearless Brewing, Pepe's Tacos and Trails Inn Cafe and Timber Room, just to name a few.
