March-Take an Amtrak Train Ride to Fort Worth, Texas

One of the greatest all-day excursions you can experience in the Sooner State is taking an Amtrak train to Texas and back – all one in a day. The Heartland Flyer departs from Oklahoma City and travels to Ft. Worth, Texas, then returns home the same day. You can shop, dine, or enjoy the big city before returning back home to OKC.

April - Enjoy the beauty at the Azalea Festival at Muskogee's Honor Heights Park: 1400 Honor Heights Drive

One of the premier events in the South is held right here in the Sooner State every spring. During the month of April, The Azalea Festival celebrates the blooming of azaleas, along with several other flowers in the historic town of Muskogee. It’s held at Honor Heights Park and attracts visitors every year from around the world.

May - Explore the town of Medicine Park

Nestled in the Wichita Mountains in southwestern Oklahoma is the vintage cobblestone resort town, Medicine Park. Step back in time as you stroll the quaint Cobblestone Row filled with shopping, history and small-town America. It is surrounded by natural beauty on all sides, water running right through it and the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge right next to it. June - Spend the day at Blue Hole Park: 158 N4470, Salina

There’s nothing better than swimming in ice-cold spring water on a hot, summer day, and we found one of the best swimming holes hiding away in northeastern Oklahoma. Blue Hole Park, just east of Salina, covers 17 acres with a refreshing spring-fed swimming hole as the focal point. Get ready because this spot will be your new favorite place to spend a summer’s day.

July - Take a dip in Travertine Creek, Chickasaw National Recreation Area: 901 West 1st Street, Sulphur

Travertine Creek in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur is a gorgeous creek that runs through stunning scenery in this national park. The creek is not only beautiful but is a perfect spot to cool off in summer, as it maintains an average of 65 degrees year-round.

August - Visit the historic town of El Reno

Born during the Great Depression, the fried onion burger was created in El Reno, Oklahoma out of a necessity for saving money when times were tough. Onions were cheap and the meat was expensive, so why not add more onions and less meat, the locals thought. Little did they know this burger would go on to become a national treasure and delight the bellies of fellow Americans almost a century later. Take a trip to El Reno – the epicenter of the fried onion burger.

September - Enjoy a glass of wine at Woods and Waters Winery and Vineyard: 17153 County Road 1380, Anadarko

If you’re looking for one of the most scenic day trips in Oklahoma, head to Anadarko to Woods & Waters Winery and Vineyard. Set on over 250 acres, this winery is one of Oklahoma’s largest, oldest and most celebrated wineries in the state. October - Drive to the top of the highest hill in the world, Cavanal Hill: Center of Poteau off scenic bypass, Poteau

One thing Oklahoma has in its hat of things to brag about is "home to the highest hill." Cavanal Hill in Poteau, Oklahoma, stands at 1,999 ft. tall and is just 1 foot short of being classified as a mountain. Not only can you hike up the hill, but you can take an unforgettable drive to the top of it. The drive to the top of the hill will take you about 45 minutes but you can pack a picnic and enjoy the view from the top and then spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the town of Poteau.

November - Visit Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve: 1925 Woolaroc Ranch Road,

Bartlesville

Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Preserve is a hidden treasure tucked away in the beauty of Osage Hills in northeastern Oklahoma. The ranch began in 1925 as the retreat home for oilman Frank Phillips and is now an educational museum and outdoor wildlife preserve open to the public. The drive into Woolaroc is a 2-mile drive surrounded by nature and wildlife. The ranch is situated on over 3,700-acres of land filled with woods, lakes, and rocks, which is where the name Woolaroc came from. The museum is home to over 55,000 pieces of western and worldwide art, exhibits, sculptures, and collections of firearms. The museum also has one of the most diverse collections of Western art and artifacts on display. It is known as one of the best in the world for Western art.

December - Visit the best Christmas town in Oklahoma: Sulphur

The town of Sulphur in south-central Oklahoma was named the best Christmas town in Oklahoma in 2017 by Cheapism.com.It’s full of charm, Christmas traditions, month-long celebrations, and holiday lights. All of the downtown businesses decorate for this event and the light displays are magical. If you're looking for Christmas spirit, then don't miss a visit to this spirited town.
