Here in Ohio, we have several beautiful towns that deserve a second look. Between the gorgeous scenery, frontier history and nature activities, Loudonville just might be the most peaceful town in all of Ohio. You'll find it tucked away in the heart of Mohican Country---and one visit here will having you coming back year-round.
With a population of about 2,600, this small town is the perfect place for a quiet day trip.
Downtown, you'll find local shops and restaurants where you can spend some downtime chowing down on local fare.
Pictured is the Workman Cabin in Central Park, which features period-authentic home goods and showcases life on the frontier.
You'll also find The Cleo Red Fisher Museum, which is full of exhibits and information about the area's fascinating frontier, industrial and forest history. It's a must-see when you're in town.
A hike through Mohican State Park is an experience you won't soon forget, as it's truly one of the most beautiful state parks in Ohio.( Cabins, cottages and primitive camping sites are available.)
Outdoor activities are especially popular here. You can rent a kayak, canoe and even tubes at the Loudonville Canoe Livery and River Room.
The covered bridge within the park extends over the Mohican River. It's a popular sight for locals and visitors alike (and makes for a great photo.)
Also within the park, you'll find Wolf Creek Gist Mill, which dates back to 1831. You can tour the historic mill and its surrounding reconstructed 1800s log cabins.
If you're looking for a truly unique place to stay the night in the area, Landoll's Mohican Castle is a magical place that reminds you of something that you thought only existed in your imagination.
Less than 20 minutes away from Loudonville, you'll also find the charming Malabar State Park, which locals and visitors alike love. It's a great stop to make before you leave the area.
