New Salem, North Dakota is a charming town in Morton County with a population of 946.

It is most known for having "Salem Sue," the world's largest Holstein cow, looking over it — but there is a lot more to this town than that.

The town was founded in 1883 and is home to buildings nearly as old as the town still standing.

New Salem is full of history more than anything else. Among the family-run stores and businesses in town, there is also quite the collection of historical buildings.

There is a museum in New Salem called the Custer Trail Museum that has an old schoolhouse, church, blacksmith, and plenty of antique farming equipment and other objects that were essential in the beginnings of this town.

New Salem also has quite a few ways to enjoy the scenery and outdoors. There are trails, a golf course, a pool, and ponds to fish in.

When stopping by, you can visit the Sunset Inn for a delicious bite of home-cooking. This is comfort food at its finest!

And, of course, how can you visit New Salem without climbing atop the butte to get up close and personal to Salem Sue and see the fantastic view of the town she has?
