When you think of Nevada, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?  I'm sure whatever you're thinking, many others are thinking the exact same thing. Here are 12 of the most common things that come to everyone's mind when they think of Nevada.

1. Gambling

Gambling was legalized in Nevada on March 19, 1931, and almost all of Nevada's casinos are open 24 hours.

2. Entertainment

There are many different types of entertainment you'll enjoy in Nevada, with the majority of it taking place in Las Vegas - the Entertainment Capital of the World.

3. Area 51

Area 51, an Air Force base about 150 miles from Las Vegas, is the area where many conspiracy theorists believe crashed UFO spacecrafts are being stored.

4. Silver Mines

The first major silver discovery in the U.S. was at the Comstock Lode in Nevada.

5. Ghost Towns

Because the financial panic of 1907 caused many businesses and mines to close, what used to be prosperous Nevada towns, no longer exist. Rhyolite is one of the best ghost towns in Nevada.

6. Burning Man Festival

The Burning Man Festival, a week-long event that takes place in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada, begins on the last Monday in August and ends on Labor Day. It got its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy that takes place on the Saturday evening of the festival.

7. Mountains

Nevada is the most mountainous state in the U.S.

Because Nevada is an open-range state, don't be surprised if you see lots of livestock roaming around freely.

9. Native Americans

Before Nevada became a state, the Paiute, Shoshone and Washoe tribes inhabited the land.

10. Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is in the Sierra Nevada of the U.S. and is a major tourist attraction.

11. Deserts

The Great Basin Desert is the largest desert in the U.S. and covers most of Nevada.

12. Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam was built during the Great Depression and was named after President Herbert Hoover.
