It’s Impossible Not To Love The Most Eccentric Town In Minnesota

Minnesotans are lucky to live in a state with both thriving cities and sleepy small towns. Each brings something unique to the table. One of the most unique towns? The tiny town of Remer in northern Minnesota, located about an hour northeast of Brainerd. This town may be small, but they've got an unusual claim to fame that makes it the most eccentric town in Minnesota.

Given its remote, densely forested location, it should come as no surprise that Remer has a population of just 370 people.

But the town's Main Street is full of local businesses. If you're passing through, it's an opportunity to explore small-town Minnesota at its finest.

You know you're in small-town Minnesota when you find a giant statue, and Remer sticks with the trend. The World's Largest Eagle proudly stands watch from its high perch.

The town also has several community events throughout the year. For example, the Harvest Festival includes a parade, raffle, and live entertainment. It's the perfect small-town celebration.

Even with all of these activities and attractions, Remer has one more claim to fame. Since a 2009 sighting, it has been known as the Home of Bigfoot.

The Bigfoot sighting brought the town some national attention. It was featured on the Animal Planet show Finding Bigfoot.

After the sighting and the TV coverage, the town took their Bigfoot fame and ran with it. Now there is an annual celebration called Bigfoot Days. It features games, food, and even a 5K. Festivities end with a Bigfoot calling contest.

Even if you don't catch a glimpse of a real Bigfoot, statues around town give you the chance for a photo op with an ever-elusive Squatch.
