Go Apple Picking, Then Stay In A Cozy Cabin In Minnesota On This Idyllic Fall Weekend Getaway

There's not really a more classic way to spend an autumn weekend in the Land of 10,000 Lakes than picking apples and, afterward, relaxing at a cozy, lakefront cabin - that's what I think, anyway. So, check out my suggestions for an iconic, relaxing fall weekend getaway in Minnesota.

On this weekend getaway, we're going to set up shop in the St. Croix River Valley/Chisago Lakes part of the state.

We'll start with a visit to Pleasant Valley Orchard in Shafer.

Walking the orchards in the autumn sunshine, the sweet aroma of ripening apples floating on the crisp air, is a fantastic way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Pick a passel of your favorite variety.

And then hit up the shop for more goodies, including fresh apple cider donuts.

Visit Pleasant Valley Orchard on the web or on the orchard's Facebook page for hours, events, and more information.

The orchard is super close to Interstate State Park in Taylors Falls.

It's one of the best spots for an autumn hike along the St. Croix River.

You can also head a little farther afield to Wild River State Park, which is up the St. Croix River a few miles from Interstate.

The mixed forest along the high river bluffs makes the park's trails an idyllic autumn destination. You'll enjoy foliage along the footpaths and down along the St. Croix valley.

When it comes time to settle down for the evening, head back to your lakefront cabin in Lindstrom.

This three-bedroom cabin boasts 50 feet of frontage on South Center Lake and sleeps up to six people - so it's perfect for either a romantic retreat or a family getaway.

When night falls, you can gaze at up at the stars while savoring s'mores at the lakeside fire pit.

For more information or to make a reservation, visit this cozy cabin's listing on VRBO.

I just don't think we could do much better for a fall weekend getaway in Minnesota! What do you think? Let us know in the comments what kind of fall weekend getaways you like to plan!
