The Cozy Small Town In Maryland That Comes Alive Under A Blanket Of Snow

When winter arrives in Maryland, it is easy to stay cooped up indoors. However, there are countless destinations to explore including one of our favorite small towns — Frostburg. The name itself makes you excited for winter and under a blanket of snow, this town seems to come alive. It is beautiful, offers plenty to see and do, and is a Maryland town that deserves a spot on every bucket list.

When it comes to Maryland towns to add to your bucket list this winter, Frostburg deserves to be right at the top. Located in Allegany County, this beautiful town is a must-visit and approximately 7,000 individuals call it home.

It is located approximately 8 miles west of Cumberland, has quite a history, and is best known as home to Frostburg State University.

While there is plenty to do in the area no matter the season, when winter arrives, this town comes alive. Of course, I always recommend exploring Frostburg Main Street and its downtown area. This area is known as an arts destination and is where you’ll find all types of unique shops, galleries, restaurants, and other businesses that are perfect for exploring.

You can also shop at the Frostburg Winter Farmers Market.

Held on select Saturdays in December, January, and February, during this winter market you can purchase local produce, meats, honey, crafts, and more.

But, if you want to head outside, there are plenty of opportunities as well. I recommend you make the short drive to New Germany State Park and enjoy a winter hike. Just make sure you bundle up for the cold and have the proper gear for a snowy adventure!

Although, one of the best ways to enjoy a chilly day is by taking a winter train ride on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.

During the winter months, this railroad offers a Steam n’ Snow adventure that takes passengers from Cumberland to Frostburg.

Frostburg is not only a town in Maryland with a magical winter name, but when the snow starts to fall, this town comes alive. It’s a winter destination that you’ll quickly love.
