Everyone Must Check Out This Small Maine Town This Summer

So, you went to Old Orchard Beach again. And again and again. There are only so many pier fries one person can enjoy, right? That's why we recommend you skip OOB this summer and spend the day in this small town instead. You've likely heard of it before, but there's a good chance you're not familiar with all the fun things you can do in and around the area!

If it's hot, you'll definitely want to take a trip to Pleasant Point Park!

The park, actually located in Buxton, is a great place to visit if you like to work for your fun. But, before taking a dip in the Saco River in the park, you can take a fun two mile hike.

The short hike in the park will take you through a forest along the river.

Along the way are opportunities to jump into the river, including one from an old bridge. The river is about 40-50 feet along the hiking trail, but always check before jumping into any body of water. There are a bunch of rope swings here as well, so make sure you're ready for adventures. In other areas, you'll be able to access sandy beaches, which are dog friendly and great for kayak launching.

Depending on the month of your trip, you might have the opportunity to enjoy some wild Maine blueberries.

A great option for blueberry picking is Joan & Brand's Blueberry Farm.

It's definitely a "blink and you'll miss it" spot, but once you find your way in you'll love how easy it is to grab those high-bush blueberries by the bucketful. Good thing they give you a bucket to use once you get there. They're located at: 447 Deerwander Road in Hollis / (207) 391-3115.

Getting hungry? Take a detour to enjoy lunch at The Fox and Hound Cafe and Bakery.

Now it's back to the park to actually access it!

After lunch go straight for the park by heading to Joy Valley Road in Buxton where you'll find parking. From here, the river is a short distance and easily accessed. Parking is limited to only a few cars, but you can also head to Simpson Road for the formal parking lot which also has temporary toilets. The park is open from dawn until dusk, has no fee and welcome dogs.

It's time to reward yourself with ice cream at Big Daddy's North!

This place is local through and through! With a constantly rotating menu of completely homemade ice cream, you'll be wanting to make a special trip to Hollis just for this! There are tables outside to enjoy your cone, as well as a sweet view of the Saco River.
