1. Castine, Hancock County

Based in the Eastern part of the state, the Maine Maritime Academy is based in this charming coastal town which also happens to be one of the oldest in the Northeast. The Dice Head Lighthouse is also based in this historic town.

2. Augusta, Kennebec County

Along with being the capital of Maine, Augusta has a rich history. This includes Old Fort Western, Benedict Arnold's base when he headed to invade Quebec.

3. Paris, Oxford County

This charming New England town was once the home of Abraham Lincoln's vice-president, Hannibal Hamlin.

4. Portland, Cumberland County

Known as "the land surrounded by water", Portland is the largest city in Maine. When Maine was formed in 1820, Portland was originally named its capital. You'll also discover Victorian homes, The Old Port, and the infamous Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse.

5. Brunswick, Cumberland County

When you visit Brunswick, make sure to spend time at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Here, you'll get to see and experience where she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin.
