The One Maine Town That Transforms Into A Christmas Wonderland Each Year

Towns across Maine are lighting up with the magic of the holidays. As December gets closer and the weeks leading to Christmas become more sparkly, we can expect to see small town tree lightings, delighting kids and adults throughout the state. From parades to hot chocolate to horse drawn carriage rides, this might just be the best time of the year. To make it extra special, check out the Sparkle Celebration in Freeport.

With all the Christmas celebrations throughout the state, it's hard to choose a favorite. But, this celebration in Freeport is certainly high on the list.

From Friday, December 7th through Sunday, December 9th the town lights up with an unmatched energy and beauty.

Things kick off Friday with the Parade of Lights heading down Main Street at 6 p.m.

The parade leads to the famous talking tree on the corner of Main Street and Bow Street.

Kids are invited to talk to the tree and find out even more abut the magic of the holiday.

Then, settle in for the Holly Jolly movie night begins at 7 p.m. at L.L. Bean.

Visitors can also enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate at the Freeport Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, Santa will be on hand to talk Christmas wishlists from kids. And, he may even reveal some secrets about living in the North Pole.

These visits take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Free wagon rides will also take guests through the streets of town.

And, for an extra special dose of fun buy yourself a ticket to Freeport on the Downeaster.

There's so much to enjoy throughout the weekend, you'll want things to go on forever. But the beauty of living in Maine means that the Christmas fun is just beginning!
