I have some good news and some bad news ... the good news is that it is FALL. That being said, what could possibly be the bad news? Well, the bad news is that the season flies by way too quickly, meaning if you are wanting to get out and enjoy the changing colors, you don't want to delay. If you want to make the most out of autumntime in Kansas, grab a hot beverage of your choosing, gas up the car, and take this gorgeous fall foliage road trip in Kansas.
This road trip is approximately 450 miles long and requires at least seven hours of drive time. However, you will get to enjoy views that take your breath away, making the time in the car well worth it. Plan a few days to fully enjoy this road trip and get ready to enjoy the fall colors in Kansas.
1. Milford Lake (Junction City)
You know all about the fishing and recreation opportunities at the state's largest lake ... but did you know it looks THIS colorful during the fall?
2. Louisburg Cider Mill (Louisburg)
Not only does the Louisburg Cider Mill have beautiful trees and shrubs, they also have a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and shop filled with all types of apple goodness! (Apple cider and donuts, anyone?)
3. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (Strong City)
What once covered 400,000 square miles of the country now accounts for only 10,894 acres. .. fortunately for us, this beautiful Tallgrass Prairie is located right in our own backyard (and its fall colors are out-of-this-world).
4. Council Grove Lake (Council Grove)
Tucked away in the Flint Hills is the picturesque Council Grove Lake, which, like Milford Lake, houses a large body of clear water outlined by a variety of trees. This area is one of our favorite places to visit Kansas in the fall.
5. Lindsborg
Like this view from atop Coronado Heights? There is more where that came from within the gorgeously landscaped city limits of Lindsborg.
6. Wilson Lake (Sylvan Grove)
It is hard to decide what we love most about fall at Wilson Lake ... is it the surrounding native prairie? The dramatic cliffs and rocky outcrops? Vibrant shrubbery? We will just say that it is all of the above!
