The first white settler arrived in the area that is now Council Grove in Illinois in 1847.
Seth Millington Hays was a great-grandson of Daniel Boone.
Today, it's a vibrant little town. There are plenty of things to do in Council Grove when you visit.
About 2,100 people call Council Grove home.
Council Grove got its name because of a treaty signed under this tree.
The treaty was an agreement between white pioneers and the Osage Nation to allow them safe passage through the area. All that's left of the Treaty Tree is this stump, which is preserved for its historical value.
Mr. Hays established the Hays House restaurant in 1857.
Farmers & Drovers Bank sits at the corner of 200 W. and Main Street.
Built in 1882, it's one of the oldest banks in Kansas and is still in operation today. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Stroll along the Neosho River and walk.
This 1.1-mile, paved walkway takes you across the river, past several statues and historical points.
The Daughters of the American Revolution placed the Madonna of the Trail statue in Council Grove in 1928.
It's one of 12 monuments placed along the National Old Trail Highway dedicated to the remembering of the strength and fortitude of pioneer women.
The Guardian of the Grove stands on the southeast side of the riverwalk.

The Last Chance Store was built in 1857. It was the last trading post for people to get supplies before the journey west and another part of why this is one of the most charming towns in Kansas.
