Enjoy The Simple Life When You Visit This Tiny Rural Community In Iowa

Donnellson, Iowa, offers charming fall activities with its renowned farms and local dining spots.

One of the great things about a state like Iowa is that it's possible to live here for years and not even scratch the surface of all the charming corners and tiny towns the Hawkeye State has waiting for us. I was blown away to discover that one of Iowa's most southeastern towns, the tiny rural community of Donnellson, was hiding some of the best fall fun in the entire state. The reason there are so many great things to do in Donnellson, Iowa, is because it's a farm hub - with not one but two of Iowa's best farms open to the public for apple and pumpkin picking and seasonal shopping. It's also home to one of Iowa's most underrated local diners. It's the perfect day trip for when you want to kick back, enjoy the simple life, and take in the ordinary joys of an Iowa fall.

Donnellson is one of those classic small towns that feels like you're stepping back into a simpler time.

The best thing about Donnellson, though, is hiding outside the city limits - a pair of world-class farms, starting with Harvestville Farm.

This massive fall destination is home to pumpkin picking, cider slushies, a cafe, a market, and so much more.

Smaller but also well worth a visit is Appleberry Orchards, a quaint U-Pick farm that's kicks off its apple season in late summer.

If you don't have time to pick your own apples, head to the farmer's market to pick out some farm-fresh jams and preserves!

A visit to Donnellson wouldn't be complete without a stop at Grandma T's Kitchen, a cute spot for old-fashioned country cooking!

At breakfast, you can dig into massive plates of omelets, pancakes, and other morning classics.

At dinner, the menu shifts to classic southern-style comfort food - just like mom used to make - in massive portions.
