11 Small Towns In Indiana Where Everyone Knows Your Name

There's something special about small towns, especially in Indiana. What to one person is a town lacking in developments, shopping, and restaurants can be seen as charming, quaint, and picturesque to another. And, as anyone who grew up in a small town can tell you, one of the best features of small towns is knowing everyone who lives there. Here's a shout out to some of the smallest towns in Indiana where everybody knows your name:

1. Napolean

Napolean is a truly tiny town in our state, with barely over 200 residents living within its boundaries. You might be skeptical as to why you should visit a town this small, but the historical roots here run quite deep. Napolean actually has ties to the Underground Railroad. The basement in Bonaparte’s Retreat Restaurant used to be a stop along the Underground Railroad. Stop in for some great pub food and a bit of history.

2. New Harmony

New Harmony is a fascinating small town with a rich history. Robert Owen originally formed the town as a hopeful utopia. Though the experiment failed, New Harmony did become a famous scientific site. With fewer than 800 residents, it's no wonder everyone there seems to know one another.

3. Merom

With barely over 200 residents, Merom is one of the state's tiniest towns, making it easy for neighbors to know one another. This gorgeous small town has two main attractions: the Merom Conference Center and Bluff Park where unique limestone formations can be found.

4. Fulton

Things may seem to move a little slower here in charming Fulton. With barely over 300 residents, knowing everyone is a pretty simple task. Fulton has a very pretty view and is only .18 square miles.

5. Edwardsport

Edwardsport is a very small Hoosier town with only around 300 residents. Despite its tiny status, it's a major location for energy production, housing the Edwardsport Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Station within the town.

6. Montmorenci

It would be almost impossible not to know the name of everyone in this barely 200 resident town. Montmorenci resides within Tippecanoe County and offers some charming scenery.

7. Amboy

Amboy, Indiana is a town of just under 400 people. This small town was founded in 1867, when the Pan Handle Railroad was extended to include this area. This quiet community has a deep sense of pride and rich Hoosier history.

8. Bloomingdale

Bloomingdale, Indiana is home to the popular Rush Creek Bridge, which was constructed in 1904. With just over 300 residents, Bloomingdale is a truly a town where everyone knows everyone else's story.

9. Patriot

The tiny town of Patriot is located in Switzerland County, Indiana in the southeastern corner. With just barely over 200 estimated residents, this small town makes it impossible not to know everyone's business. Elwood Mead-Head is from Patriot, well known for his work on the Hoover Dam.

10. Leavenworth

This tiny town along the Ohio River was established in 1818 and has approximately 236 residents. This town has a rich history (including the Hines Raid and Ohio River Flood damages) and is a gorgeous place to call home. If you want a charming town to settle down in where you'll know everyone, Leavenworth is a great pick.

11. Stinesville

Stinesville boasts a population of only 202 people, making it simple to remember every resident. Founded in 1855, Stinesville is just outside of Bloomington and offers an extremely affordable housing market for small town living.
