I Asked Our AI-Travel Planner for a Weekend Adventure in Honolulu — Here’s What It Created
I turned to AI to create the itinerary for an upcoming getaway to Honolulu. Here are my results.
I did something brave, something completely unlike me. I let AI create an itinerary for a weekend getaway in Honolulu, Hawaii. See, I have been creating travel itineraries for years, and I don’t let just anyone plan my getaway adventures, especially those to a Hawaiian Island. I especially have never let AI create my list of things to do and see. However, I turned to Only In Your State’s award-winning AI-powered Dashboard trip planner to see what my upcoming visit to this Hawaiian city would look like, and I’m glad I did.
Only In Your State’s AI Dashboard creates custom adventures based on our curated content library. I told the Dashboard I wanted a weekend itinerary for a summer adventure in Honolulu. It would be my husband and I, and I’d like to focus on nature, good food, and unique places to stay. The following is what the Dashboard planner gave me. What do you think?
Places to eat in Honolulu
ARVO Café
ARVO Cafe is not your typical café. From the minute you walk in, you’ll be greeted with walls of plants, friendly faces, and a hip, relaxed atmosphere. The menu is filled with a variety of beverages, from cappuccinos to lattes, and there are many delicious food options to choose from as well. We love the numerous types of toast on the menu, including loaded avocado toast, Nutella toast, meatballs and toast, and so much more.
Moku Kitchen
You’ll get a taste of Hawaii’s farming and ranching heritage in downtown Honolulu at Moku. This bucket-list-worthy restaurant is open seven days a week and serves food that you’ll be thinking about for weeks. Enjoy handcrafted cocktails, poke tacos, hand-tossed pizzas, marinated shrimp salad, a smashburger with fries, and plenty more. Make sure to save room for dessert – the ice cream sandwiches are a must try!
Places to Stay in Honolulu
Manoa Valley Inn
If you choose to stay at a hotel or at one of the many resorts in downtown Honolulu, it can feel crowded and overwhelming. That’s why you may want to book a stay at Manoa Valley Inn. Located just outside of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Campus, this quiet inn features seven rooms with breathtaking views, private bathrooms, and air conditioning. Enjoy comfortable bedding, breakfast each morning, and coffee and tea available 24/7. You’ll feel right at home and away from the crowds when you stay at this charming Hawaii inn.
Things to do in Honolulu
The Dashboard planner did not give me many ideas for things to do outdoors in Honolulu. However, I have a few ideas of my own. That’s the beauty of itineraries — they are easy to personalize.
Hike to Diamond Head
I’ve hiked the Diamond Head Crater Summit Trail multiple times, and it is one of my favorite places to explore. While this out-and-back trail is short (only 1.6 miles), it can be quite challenging. There are several steep areas and lots of stairs you must climb. However, the views from the top are pretty spectacular and make every step worth it.
Waikiki Beach
Located on the south shore of Honolulu is Waikiki Beach, the most popular and well-known beach in Hawaii. While it can become crowded, I have never felt overwhelmed by the people on the beach, and I love to jump in the water. I particularly love to sit and enjoy the sunsets here as well — they are pretty spectacular.
Manoa Falls
If you want to admire Hawaii's remote waterfalls but still be near the city, you don’t want to skip Manoa Falls. To reach this 150-foot waterfall, you have a 1.8-mile hike to tackle with a few steep inclines. However, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in Hawaii’s gorgeous natural beauty without traveling too far. It’s a hike I’ve actually enjoyed multiple times throughout my visits to Oahu, and each time I tackle this trail, I am reminded of how much I love Hawaii and its scenery.
So, what do you think of this weekend itinerary created by AI? What other attractions, restaurants, or accommodations would you include? Let me know by filling out this nomination form.
