Interstate 95 is the main highway on the East Coast, running from the southern tip of Florida up to the northern tip of Maine. That means it goes all the way through the Peach State, right along our coast. The highway just happens to run through several of the most charming towns in Georgia, so we've gathered a few of our favorites that you'll want to stop in on a road trip.
The entire trip is quite short, with total drive time of under two and a half hours. Obviously, you'll want to allow plenty of time to check out each town! Check out the map on Google Maps - it's customizable, so you can add or remove stops if you like.
1. Kingsland
You'll start your trip with Kingsland, tucked just above the state line. The city's two-acre historic district has some buildings that date back over 100 years. One interesting attraction in Kingsland that is a must-visit for Star Trek fans is The Neutral Zone.
2. Brunswick
Brunswick is a major tourist attraction that has one major claim to fame: the stew that shares its name was first cooked here! Brunswick stew is a tomato stew that contains various vegetables and meats. There are some beautiful parks and squares here, and it's no wonder that this is city is so popular with visitors. The city is also home to the tallest bridge in Georgia.
3. Darien
Keep traveling north and you'll hit Darien. This small beach town is virtually unknown outside of the surrounding area, but it's a neat place! It's home to plenty of historic sites and is actually the second-oldest planned city in Georgia.
4. Midway
Your next stop is another historic city! Midway was first settled in 1752. There are some absolutely wonderful historic cemeteries here. The area is a major seafood producer. While you're in the city, make sure to stop by Sunbury Crab Company. You can get some excellent (and fresh) seafood there.
5. Savannah
Your last stop is the gorgeous port city of Savannah. This is one of the most historic and beautiful cities in Georgia. If you've got the time, try to stay here for at least 24 hours: there's so much to do in the city!
How many of these wonderful cities along I-95 have you visited? Any others you'd recommend? Share your experiences in the comments!
