The Incredible Road Trip Through Florida That Leads You To 5 Stunning Lakes
While most visitors to the Sunshine State will head to the beaches for a sunny day, I have an alternative for you that is equally as rewarding and likely a little bit less chaotic. Florida has numerous beautiful lakes, each offering unique attractions and activities, and we've compiled a few of our favorites into one list. Of course, while you can easily make this trip in one day, we recommend stretching it out into a weekend so you can spend more time at each lake.

1. Lake Istokpoga
Located in Highlands County, this lake is one of Florida's premier bass fishing destinations. With its shallow waters and extensive weed beds, Lake Istokpoga provides excellent fishing opportunities. It is also a serene location for birdwatching and wildlife observation. Plus, there are plenty of places to get out and stretch your legs with a hike!
2. Blue Cypress Lake
This lake in Indian River County is known for its stunning cypress trees that rise from the water, creating a picturesque setting. Blue Cypress Lake is excellent for fishing, kayaking, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. It's a great place to spend the day with the whole family.
3. Lake Tohopekaliga
Often referred to as Lake Toho, this lake in Kissimmee is renowned for its bass fishing. The lake's clear waters and abundant aquatic vegetation make it an ideal habitat for largemouth bass. The nearby Kissimmee Lakefront Park offers recreational amenities such as picnic areas, walking paths, and a marina. So you can spend the day casting your lines and then enjoy a picnic as the sun sets.
4. Lake Apopka
Lake Apopka is worth visiting for its rich biodiversity and natural beauty. As one of Florida's largest lakes, it offers excellent birdwatching, especially at the North Shore, where you can spot rare species. The scenic trails are perfect for hiking and biking, providing a tranquil escape into nature. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy the abundant fish population. 5. Lake Dora
Lake Dora, nestled in Central Florida's Lake County and part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, spans approximately 4,475 acres and offers a blend of scenic beauty and recreational activities. Surrounded by the charming towns of Mount Dora, Tavares, and Eustis, the lake is renowned for its stunning sunsets, boating, fishing, and the unique attraction of seaplane activities in Tavares, known as "America’s Seaplane City."
