The Under-The-Radar Scenic Drive In Connecticut That Showcases Forests And Beautiful Scenery

Nowadays, we spend a lot more time in our cars than we used to. That's even more true in Connecticut, where many of us work in different cities than we live, and some of us even commute to different states for work! Even with all the amenities that we have in modern-day vehicles, it can still be a drag to be in your car so much... unless you happen to be driving on one of the most scenic roads in Connecticut. We're lucky enough to have quite a few beautiful roads and scenic drives in just about every region of the state. Other drivers might still be a pain, but the gorgeous windshield views as you look out onto the rolling Litchfield Hills or the peaceful tranquility of the Quiet Corner sure make being in your car a little more pleasant. One of our favorite roads in the state is Connecticut Route 4. Check out this scenic road in Connecticut below.

This peaceful road runs east-west from Litchfield County to the Greater Hartford area. Though Route 4's endpoint of West Hartford is pretty solidly metropolitan, the majority of the highway runs through rural small towns.

Route 4 starts in Sharon, right on the state line, and runs through several charming small towns like Cornwall, Goshen, and Torrington before hitting the Hartford area.

The scenery in this area of the state is simply magnificent!

The Housatonic River runs through the region, providing beautiful waterfront views.

Much of the landscape here looks pulled straight off a postcard.

Cornwall is home to the longest covered bridge in Connecticut. The West Cornwall Covered Bridge spans 172 feet over the Housatonic River.

You'll pass by a variety of historic sites.

There are also many farms and wineries in this region of the state.

I highly recommend pulling over to explore some of these little towns.

You'll pass through so many places that are filled with history and natural beauty, and there are countless places to stop along the way.

Whether you're looking to drive this scenic road in Connecticut or want to explore elsewhere, it's important to prepare yourself for emergencies before hitting the road. Check out our Road Trip Essentials Packing List to make sure you're prepared for whatever life throws at you.
