Southern California may well bring to mind endless summers and moderate year-round temperatures, but that does not mean that fall does not make its appearance each year. If you are in the mood to enjoy all things fall, the charming mountain town of Oak Glen is the place to be. Take the perfect weekend getaway in Southern California and get a taste of the classic autumn life, even in our warm climate! Oak Glen is less than a two-hour drive from Los Angeles and is gorgeous during fall months when the maple, oak, and black walnut trees change colors and turn the whole area into a brightly colored fall fantasy. We have some ideas for a lovely fall getaway including apple picking in Southern California. Grab your favorite sweater and get ready for a fun fall getaway in SoCal.
Oak Glen is famous for apples and Riley’s Farm is one of Oak Glen’s most popular working orchards. The grounds, with their stunning fall foliage, are the perfect backdrop for your apple-picking adventure.
Riley’s grows a variety of both modern and heirloom apples that you will not find in grocery stores. More than just apples, you can also pick pumpkins while you are there. In fact, every season at Riley’s is picking season, from strawberries and blackberries to Barlett pears.
Snow-Line Orchard is another must-visit destination while in Oak Glen. This family-owned orchard is also a winery and cidery with much to explore, from the original packing shed and historic cider mill to beautiful picnic grounds and wine tasting. Be sure to purchase some fresh apple cider!
You will not want to miss another local favorite - Snow-Line’s famous apple cider mini donuts.
If you'd like to stay in town over the weekend, spend the night at the adorable Pinecone Cottage, which is ideally located to enjoy all that Oak Glen has to offer. Enjoy a cup of hot cider on the large covered patio and watch the leaves fall.
Charming is the word for this little home away from home. Simple, comfy farmhouse-style furnishings with thoughtful touches make the cottage feel both fresh and cozy.
A fireplace and lots of windows give you the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the colorful trees around you.
It doesn’t get more peaceful than this wide tree-lined property, the perfect Oak Glen retreat to hang out amid the changing colors.
Your all-things-fall-themed weekend would not be complete without a visit to Oak Tree Mountain, a 14-acre old-fashioned theme park that has been providing family fun since 1962.
At Oak Tree Mountain, you can explore quaint shops, visit with a peacock, buy a 5-pound mile-high apple pie or a fresh caramel apple, watch the pig races, and eat at California’s largest outdoor barbecue, not to mention practice your axe-throwing skills.
