Few People Know This Charming Small Town In Arkansas Is The Halfway Point On The Scenic 7 Byway

Arkansas has got lots of charming small towns. Most, though, are pretty remote and not conveniently located. However, that’s not always the case. Take Morrilton, for example. As the halfway point of Arkansas’ first scenic byway, it’s an easily accessible detour and a great day trip destination.
Scenic Highway 7 is about 290 miles in length, spanning from Arkadelphia to Harrison, with lots of scenic sights in between.
Arkansas’ first scenic byway, Scenic Highway 7 showcases the state’s diverse beauty. The route begins in the coastal plain region of southern Arkansas, meanders past the Ouachita Mountains and through the Arkansas River valley, before traversing the Ozark Mountains.
Running nearly the entire length of the state, Scenic Highway 7 passes through lots of charming towns, including Morrilton, which is roughly the byway’s midway mark.
Rurally located and home to just under 7,000 residents, most would assume that Morrilton is a typical small town.
However, it’s anything but typical – and that’s made clear by the town’s slogan, "Morrilton is indeed a small city with NO limits."
There’s so much to see and do in Morrilton, starting with a lively downtown that boasts everything from boutiques to eateries.
Downtown Morrilton is also home to The Rialto Community Arts Center. Sure to impress fans of the arts, the center hosts concerts, plays, and more.
Morrilton has a wealth of options for outdoor enthusiasts too. In addition to a city park, fans can enjoy the great outdoors at Petit Jean State Park.
Not only is Petit Jean State Park Arkansas’ first state park, but it’s the state’s most visited park – and for good reason!
The 3,471-acre park boasts tons of history and lots of recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, and camping.
Even history buffs will find something to do in Morrilton.
The small town is home to a couple of museums, including the Depot Museum and The Museum of Automobiles.
Aside from permanent fixtures and attractions, Morrilton is the site of some great annual events, such as Bargains Galore on 64, a 160-mile yard sale that takes place every August.
