The Farmer’s Almanac Predicts Warmer Than Average Temperatures In Alaska This Spring

Tips for surviving and enjoying the harsh Alaskan winter.

Spring has arrived in Alaska. Snow is melting, birds are singing, and the Farmer's Almanac is predicting that Alaska will have warmer temperatures this spring, so we can get out and get moving to our heart's content. With gorgeous weather and many places closed, it's the perfect opportunity to get the whole family outside.

After a long, snowy winter, there are few things that get Alaskans more excited than the promise of a sunny and warm spring.

Although there are plenty of wonderful winter activities to do, long sunny days and temperatures well above freezing beckon you to go outside and play.

Daylight has reached at least 15 hours a day in spots like Sitka, Alaska.

If you head farther north, there are 17 hours in Anchorage, and 19 hours in Fairbanks. The state is heading quickly towards summer solstice, and the weather is following suit.

The Farmer's Almanac has predicted that after a winter filled with above average snowfall, we'll move into a warm and balmy spring.

Both April and May will see above average temperatures. They will also see above average precipitation, which should make all of the buds pop open!

The snow is melting, and the waterfalls are strong and flowing.

It's the perfect time for a hike with the family, or getting out on the water. You could even grab your camping gear to spend a couple days outside in this beautiful weather.

Summer is also predicted to be hotter than the average.

The hottest month this year in Alaska is supposed to be July. The northern parts of Alaska will see more rain than normal, and the southern parts are expected to see less rain than average.

Hopefully with the heavy snowfall this winter and above average precipitation this spring, we won't see too many wildfires this summer.

In the northern parts of Alaska the above average precipitation should help quell any fires that break out. In the south, however, we should be extra careful so we don't end up with a smoky summer like last year.

However you choose to spend your sunny days, make sure you make the most of them!

The long days and warm weather is a great way to spend quality time with your family. Fresh air always does wonders after a lengthy winter, and getting your antsy kids outside to burn energy is the perfect way to start an adventure filled summer!
