Discover six unforgettable weekend getaway destinations in Alaska, perfect for family or friends.

Who doesn't love going on a weekend vacation, especially with family or friends? If you've got some time off then you should definitely take this opportunity to enjoy a long weekend away from home on any of these great weekend trips in Alaska. Don't have any ideas on where to go for a relaxing weekend away? Well look no further, we've compiled some awesome and unforgettable vacation ideas for that long weekend away.

1) A weekend at Chena Hot Springs!

Take a Friday off, get out of town early, and head to Chena Hot Springs for a mini spa weekend! The Ice Palace they have is more than enough to convince me to enjoy a long weekend at their famous resort! Find out more about the amenities they offer all year round on the Chena Hot Springs website. If you’re traveling through Alaska, put this great stop at the top of your list!

2) Adlersheim Wilderness Lodge

Please note, Adlersheim Wilderness Lodge has permanently closed.

For those of you who call Juneau home, we have a great trip for you! Take a short drive up the road to paradise! Stay in a secluded forest cabin or the luxury of the lodge at Adlersheim Resort at Yankee Cove! Read more about what guests think of this gorgeous bed and breakfast on TripAdvisor.

3) Resurrection Bay Camping Trip

If you're anywhere within driving distance then you have to take this weekend trip to Seward. Camping on Resurrection Bay just outside of Seward is one of the most beautiful trips you can ever experience in Alaska. When you decide to visit town you have all of Seward to keep you company, from the fun Sealife Center to all the great food, you'll have a blast. This is one of the great getaway spots in Alaska. Learn more about camping in Seward on the city’s website page.

4) Take a Scenic Drive to Homer.

You'll see hundreds of lovely sights on the drive down to Homer. Once you're there, you have your pick of some great inns and B&B's. Once you're settled in, you can take a long walk down the spit or stop in for drinks at the Salty Dawg. The Homer Inn and Spa is a great place to relax the weekend away, and Homer is one of our favorite places to visit in Alaska!

5) Frozen Ice River Camping!

During the coldest parts the year, the snow really starts coming down and so does the temperature. Once it's cold enough, take a pack and your tent and find a frozen river to camp on! There is nothing else like it because, hey, you can't put a campground on a river! My personal favorite is to drive to Eagle River. Near the Eagle River Nature Center is a pull off where, when frozen, you can hike a ways down the river and set up camp. It's always a fun trip, especially with friends! Eagle River Nature Center has some great hikes nearby to explore when you pack up for the day.

6) Girdwood Cabins!

For a fancier getaway take a long weekend trip to Girdwood and stay in one of the cabins. Spend your weekend curled up by the fire or out on the slopes of Alyeska! Staying in a cozy cabin in Girdwood is one of the greatest weekend trips in Alaska that you’ll find. Find some good rentals at Alyeska Hideaway Log Cabins.
