Alaska Should Expect Extra Snow This Winter According To The Farmers’ Almanac

If you’ve been craving some fun in the snow, then this is the year to get out and play! We have one huge snowy winter in Alaska coming up, so you’ll want to be prepared with all the gear and necessities you need. The Farmer’s Almanac predicts a winter with mild temperatures, and more snow than usual!

If you were hoping for a winter wonderland this year, you may just get what you’ve asked for.

The upcoming chilly season all over Alaska is supposed to be filled with plenty of snow, and milder temperatures so you can get out and enjoy it. This means the perfect winter to play in.

When you talk about a lot of snow in Alaska, we mean huge amounts of snowfall.

Valdez routinely sees over 300 inches of snow annually, on average. This town, and nearby Thompson Pass, hold quite a few snowfall records in both the state and the world.

Winter temperatures are expected to be milder then normal all across the state, with the coldest periods in early January and February.

November, December, and late March are expected to see the heavier periods of snowfall. This sounds like we may be enjoying winter past Easter.

That means there’s no better time to get out your gear and head to the backcountry.

Whether you are downhill or cross country skiing, you’ll love the views and the silence that nature offers in the winter. With precipitation higher than normal, there’s going to be great spots to ski all over the state.

Or try something a little different, and hop on a dog sled.

Many tours are still running in the winter, and this is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of a classic mode of transportation in our state. Fresh air, fun dogs, and a breathtaking trip across the snow may be just what you need.

Make sure your car is ready for the winter season.

Put those studded tires or chains on, top off all of your fluids, and have an emergency break down kit in the car, just in case. If you slide off into a snowbank on a road trip, you might not get help for awhile. It’s better to be prepared, especially with our cold temperatures.

Grab a loved one and get out and enjoy our gorgeous state.

This is one winter you won’t want to stay inside. Gear up and enjoy all of the fun, unique things you can only do in Alaska!
