You’re Going To Love These Predictions About Alaska’s Mild Upcoming Winter

The Farmer's Almanac just released their weather predictions for the upcoming winter and Alaska seems to be blessed with mild conditions. Although "warmer than average" may be ridiculously cold to some, Alaskans are always ready for the brisk temperatures. The Farmer's Almanac has been predicting the weather since 1792, and are found to be about 80% correct. Alaska can remain optimistic that the winter will be fun and not bitterly cold.

With such a long history of accuracy, it's worth noting what they have to say about this upcoming winter. The Farmer's Almanac predicted a rainy, cool, mild August and it appears to be true.

This winter is predicted to have above average temperatures though September, October and November. The fall colors may last a bit longer than usual!

A snowy period will follow in late November and early to mid-December, just in time for a white Christmas. With any luck, the ski resorts will be able to open in early winter.

The coldest periods of winter will be in early to mid-January and early February, pretty standard for Alaska. The temperatures are listed as slightly below average, but only during the dead of winter.

Another solid dose of snow should come in late March, while April and May will be warmer than normal with slightly more precipitation. Sounds like perfect weather for spring snow sports!

Snowfall is predicted to be above normal in Central Alaska and below normal in both the Northern and Southern Alaska. With any luck, there should be enough snow for the dog mushing season.

No major snowfalls are predicted that would impede highway travel this winter.

Optimism about a mild winter shouldn't deter you from stacking extra firewood or fuel oil just in case there's a brutal storm, but the mild temperatures should hold through most of the winter.

Enjoy another exciting Alaskan winter. Although "mild" is a relative term, it will be an adventure braving the cold and enjoying the pristine wilderness.
