Alcan Highway

If you want to get to Alaska but you're too afraid to fly (for whatever weird reason) then you're stuck driving, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because driving the Alcan is actually a fun time. This highway is the yellow brick road connecting Alaska to the lower 48.

Blue Tarps

Blue Tarps are the essential in every Alaskans pack. You may even call it the universal flag of Alaska because life up here can get pretty rough without one... or seven.

Crude Oil

The Trans-Alaska Crude Oil Pipeline, simply called the pipeline by Alaskans, is one of the largest pipelines in the world.

Denali

Formerly known as Mount McKinley, Denali was officially renamed as such this year. It's the highest mountain peak in North America.

Eagles and Endangered Species

Did you know there isn't a single endangered species in Alaska? Also, there are more eagles than you could believe.

Fishing

Fishing is HUGE here. Enough said.

Glacier Bay

The Glacier Bay Park and Preserve covers 600,000 acres of federally protected land. Seeing as there are no roads leading to the park, it is mostly reached by plane.

Hobart Bay

Fun fact, Hobart Bay is the smallest community in Alaska!

Ice Museums

The Aurora Ice Museum is the largest year-round ice environment. Wouldn't you want to visit this Stoli Ice Bar?

Juneau

Juneau is Alaska's capital but surprisingly there are no roads that connect it to the rest of the state.

Here is Holgate Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, just one of the many breathtaking sights to see.

This is the land of the Midnight Sun so the summers consist of gorgeous, long summer days perfect for camping and backyard BBQ's.

Ice Raod Truckers, Bering Sea Gold, all of those reality TV shows don't really depict life in Alaska quite spot on. Sure, they are fun to watch, but people up here aren't too crazy about them.

Tongass National Forest

We have the largest National Forest in the nation at a whopping 17 million acres!

U.S. Purchased Alaska in 1867

The United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire for 7.2 million dollars. The town in the image reflects what Sitka looked like around the time of the Alaska Purchase.

Vacation hot spot!

Alaska is a tourist mosh pit. There are always people from around the world vacationing here. And we don't blame them... it's awesome here, but one have one request, don't stay! Always go back home. :)
