I've always been fascinated with how towns were named, especially the ones that stand out. One town in particular is Double Springs. As its name suggests, Double Springs was named after two springs that flowed side by side. But where is Double Springs, Alabama? During the 1940s, State Highway 195 was built, and it now covers the pair of springs. The hidden springs still flow underneath the highway.

Incorporated on May 17, 1943, Double Springs is the seat of Winston County, which was founded in 1850.

Bankhead National Forest, which is often referred to as "Bankhead" or "Bankhead National Forest." This national forest is one of the Southeast's top hiking destinations.

Located in Houston, Alabama, this jail, which is believed to have been built in 1868, is the only known log jail in Alabama that's still standing today. It's also one of the few surviving log jails in the United States. An interesting fact about Houston, Alabama is that it was the original seat of Winston County before Double Springs became the county seat in 1884.
