There’s A Magical Mermaid Festival Coming To Texas Next Month
If The Little Mermaid played as big a role in your childhood as it did ours, this festival is for you. Mermaids are coming out to play next month in San Marcos, and it promises to be a magical experience for all in attendance.
Mermaid SPLASH Fest is a two-week festival that honors the arts, culture, heritage, and, of course, the life-giving waters of San Marcos. Multiple events ensure sea creatures of all ages can join in the fun and make lasting memories.
Participating businesses deck their storefronts out from floor to ceiling, transforming downtown San Marcos into an undersea paradise. Extremely gifted local artists share their talents and painted vibrant masterpieces on store windows.
Festivities kick off on September 7 with the annual "Mer-tini" Shakedown Competition. In this whimsical challenge, contestants will go head-to-head in an effort to create the most flamboyant cocktail imaginable.
Even if martinis aren't your go-to drink, these are an exception. Sample a variety of brightly colored concoctions that just might taste even better than they look.
On the 21st, a blowout parade sends SPLASH off with a bang. Summery floats have undergone an aquatic makeover, rendering them impossible to take your eyes off of.
Following the promenade, the Mermaid Aqua Faire kicks off at San Marcos Plaza Park. This full-day celebration is totally free and includes live music, food vendors, an open-air market, and plenty of activities for the kiddos like face painting and storytelling.
