If you're in search of awe-inspiring views that don't require a long backcountry trek, look no further than Mount Bonnell. It's the highest point in the Capital City, and you won't regret experiencing it firsthand.
Nestled in the lush greenery of Covert Park on the west side of Austin, Mount Bonnell is the highest point in the Capital City.
It towers at a whopping 785 feet!
The .5-mile trail leading to the top isn't stroller- or wheelchair-friendly, as it features a staircase with more than 100 steps.
It's quite a workout, so make sure to dress appropriately and wear the right shoes.
Every aching muscle is worth its while when you reach the summit.
The pristine Colorado River stretches far as the eye can see into the distance, meandering along the rolling undulations of the Texas Hill Country.
Since the hike is so short, you'll have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
There are plenty of benches to sit on, so bring a picnic lunch and soak in the breathtaking natural surroundings.
In the far distance, the Austin skyline looms overhead with unimaginable might.
The buildings just barely rise up beyond the horizon, seemingly worlds away.
