If you've lived in Texas for any significant amount of time, chances are you've at least heard of Luckenbach. Blink and you might pass right by this tiny town, but that would be a rookie mistake. Here, you'll find an unassuming general store filled with all sorts of treasures sure to whisk you back in time. Check it out:
You'll find Luckenbach in the Hill Country, about 13 miles outside of Fredericksburg. Established in 1848, it's Texas' smallest town, with a population of just three.
Despite being little more than a blip on the map, Luckenbach attracts tourists by the thousands. Their destination? This nondescript building that doubles as a saloon and general store.
Luckenbach had its own zip code until 1971, and the post office was also located in this building. If you're a history buff, rest-assured friendly regulars are always delighted to tell the tale of how their little town came to be.
Prepare to be whisked back in time upon seeing the plethora of nostalgic items that cover the walls from floor-to-ceiling. Vintage signs, license plates, and Texas memorabilia tell stories of the good ol' days.
Right next to the general store is a dance hall that frequently holds country music concerts. From local talent to famous figures, there's never a dull moment on the stage. Even Willie Nelson has been known to make surprise appearances from time to time!
Seating extends outdoors, which is also where you'll find the Feed Lot. Grab a burger, pulled pork or Bratwurst sandwich, or corn dog, among other tasty tidbits (and a cold drink, of course) while you enjoy the tunes.
All throughout the general store, you'll see the town motto: "Everybody's Somebody in Luckenbach." Snag some merchandise sporting the slogan, or perhaps pick up a copy of the monthly newspaper, the Luckenbach Moon. It's a charming place all-around!
Hours are 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 10 a.m. until 12 a.m. Friday-Saturday. All music is currently performed on the outdoor stage. Visit the general store's website or Facebook page to learn more.
