A Drive Down Texas’ Loneliest Road Will Take You Miles And Miles Away From It All
The title makes it sound like this article is about a peaceful, relaxing road, doesn't it?
...That couldn't be further from the truth. The loneliest road in our state is also the creepiest, with a legend behind it that will chill you to the bone. The scariest part? It isn't just a story. Everyone I've encountered, including myself, who has driven down Bragg Road in Saratoga has seen the infamous "ghost light" glowing eerily in the distance. And there never seem to be any other vehicles when I go, so be prepared to face the fear in complete solitude - well, save for the company of the ghost, of course.
An eight-mile stretch of desolate, unpaved country road, Bragg Road is primarily used as a shortcut between FM 787 and FM 1293...but its alleged history keeps most people far away.
Legend has it that over a century ago, when the road was part of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, a train derailed and severed the conductor's head immediately.
Now, you'll see a mysterious light at the end of the road, never getting bigger or brighter no matter how close you get.
Theories range from gases to headlights from a nearby highway, but one thing is for sure - the light is real, and seeing it in person when nobody else is around will chill you to the bone.
Have you ever driven down Bragg Road? Did you see the ghost light? What's your theory behind its existence?
