The Unique Hiking Trail In Texas That Takes You To 5 18th-Century Spanish Missions
If you enjoy a side of history with your hikes, the Hike and Bike Trail along the San Antonio River was made just for you. One of the best hikes in Texas, this roughly 10-mile path leads to all five of San Antonio’s 18th-century Spanish missions, offering a scenic and educational adventure that history buffs of all ages will never forget.
The Hike and Bike Trail along the San Antonio River is far and away the most unique way to experience the iconic San Antonio missions.
Roughly 10 miles long, the scenic trail connects all five 18th-century Spanish missions in San Antonio: The Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada.
Each mission is located about 2.5 miles from the next, so no matter where you are on the trail, you're always within walking distance of a Texas history landmark.
You'll see original, 260-year-old frescos at Mission Concepcion, Texas Revolution-era artifacts at the Alamo, and get the opportunity to embark on a guided ranger tour of Mission San Jose.
It's also worth noting that public transportation also runs along the trail, so if neither hiking nor biking are viable options, you can still experience the missions in all their glory.
