These 15 Counties Have the Healthiest People in All of Texas
While Texas isn’t normally associated with stellar health rankings, some counties in Texas seem to have a pretty clean bill of health. We consulted CountyHealthRankings.org, which takes into account each county’s health in terms of quality of life, environmental factors, adult obesity, smoking and drinking habits, access to healthcare, and much more, in order to bring you this list of the 15 healthiest counties in Texas.

87% of residents in Hansford County have access to exercise opportunities, which could explain its high ranking among 237 counties in Texas.

There have only been 62 preventable hospital stays in Rockwall County so far in 2015, and only 3% of the population has difficulty obtaining healthy food choices.

There have been no alcohol-impaired driving deaths in Lampasas County so far in 2015.

Kendall County has a food environment index of 8, on a scale from 0 to 8.9. Diet and exercise were taken into account when compiling this data.

Only 1% of the population was at risk of being exposed to potentially contaminated water in the past year in Gillespie County.

Only 13% of residents here have reported having poor or fair health.

97% of residents here have access to exercise opportunities, and enjoy a shorter average commute to work than most other counties in Texas.

The food environment index here is 7, compared to the Texas average of 6.4.

10% of residents in Fort Bend County smoke, as compared to the Texas average of 17%. Only 1% of the population was at risk of being exposed to potential drinking water violations in the past year.

Babies are born healthier in Mills County, with only 5.8% having a low birthweight compared with the Texas average of 8.4%.

93% of residents here have access to some form of exercise. The rate of children in poverty is 15%, compared with the Texas average of 25%.

There are 25 teen births per 1,000 females between the ages of 15-19 in Denton County, compared with 55 as the Texas average.

Physical inactivity comes in at 18% of the population, compared with the Texas average of 23%.

Only 10% of the population here reported having poor or fair health in the past year, and there were no drinking water violations.

Topping our list is Presidio County; it has half the rate of premature deaths as the Texas average, and violent crime rates are significantly lower than the rest of the state.
