When you need to get away from it all and clear your head, nothing beats a day at the lake. Fort Boggy State Park is home to one of the best lakes in Texas, with deep blue waters and lush surroundings that offer plenty of shade and nature trails to explore. The best part is the seclusion - hardly anyone knows about this park, so you'll likely be among the only people there.
Halfway between Houston and Dallas lies a nearly 2,000-acre oasis that hardly anyone knows exists.
Fort Boggy State Park is centered around Sullivan Lake, a 15-acre reservoir ideal for swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating.
The lake is no-wake, and there is a ramp you can launch from.
Don't forget your fishing poles! The lake is well-stocked with argemouth bass, channel catfish, and sunfish and rainbow trout, ensuring anglers almost never leave without a catch.
You can fish from either the pier or the bank, and fishing licenses are not required at Texas state parks.
The park also boasts over three miles of hiking trails that meander through its dense forest landscape. One trail skirts around the lake, while another takes you deep into the woods. There's so much to see!
Visitors can also enjoy a 50-person pavilion situated on a hill overlooking the lake. It's perfect for group events and can be reserved by contacting the park.
While Fort Boggy makes an excellent day trip, it offers both cabins and primitive, hike-in campsites if you're looking for a longer getaway. Restroom facilities are available, as well as outdoor showers.
Visit the park's website or Facebook page for more information, including park hours and entrance fees.
