Did you grow up reading all the Harry Potter books, then waiting in line for each of the eight theatrical releases? The Harry Potter frenzy may have faded, but the mystique behind the boy wizard and his adventures remains a favorite for all would-be wizards and enchantresses, especially around Halloween.
If magic spells, bubbly potions, and invisibility cloaks still pique your imagination – and you are at least age 21 – then you should pull out your magic quill and sign up for the three-day adult-only Worthwich School of Witchcraft and Wizardry magical retreat Oct. 27-29, 2017. Touted as an immersive retreat to a school of magic and home for misfit wizards, the magical event takes place at the Parrie Haynes Ranch in Killeen, located about 150 miles from Fort Worth. Houses will compete against one another in evening tournaments. Winners will learn the house cup and a banner to hang in their dorm!
Adults who really get into Harry Potter bring several outfit changes to accommodate all their tasks and activities throughout the weekend. Of course, such elaborate costuming is not required.
At nightly screenings, treats and a special adult brew of the wizard's favorite frothy beverage (butterbeer!) will be served. Students are also welcome to BYOB "adult potions" to enjoy during the screenings or around the campfire. Just don't miss your morning classes afterward!
Be prepared to learn new facts and fun about wizardry.
Tickets for the all-inclusive magical retreat can be ordered here and are $400 per person (there are also special group rates). Students will need to provide their own sheets, blankets, pillow, and towels. Trunks are recommended!
