10 Ways Texas Has Quietly Become The Coolest State In America
If you’ve lived in Texas for awhile, you already know it’s filled to the brim with coolness. As for the rest of the country…well, they could use a bit of a wake-up call to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that our state is the best. After all, Texas is:
1. Full of natural beauty.
No matter where you go in Texas or what time of year it is, you'll always find breathtaking natural wonders. From Hamilton Pool to Big Bend and everything in between, Texas is brimming with beautiful scenery you just can't find anywhere else.
2. You won't find more scrumptious food anywhere else.
Every inch of the state has delicious food, be it a family-owned mom & pop joint or a wildly famous restaurant. Whether you're in the mood for some melt-in-your-mouth barbecue in the Hill Country or a warm bowl of chili out in Terlingua, Texas has you covered.
3. Our history is richer than the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow...
History buffs flock to Texas because of the important role it played in our nation's development. Some of the most important battles ever fought happened on our state's soil. Who knows where our country would be today if it weren't for Texas? Nowhere good, that's for sure.
4. ...and, consequently, so is our pride.
Considering how important Texas was to the triumph of the U.S., we have a lot to be proud of - and we aren't afraid to admit that. It's not uncommon to see the Texas flag right next to the American flag at businesses or homes, which is something that's almost unheard of in other states.
5. We have food shaped like our state.
I don't know about y'all, but I've never seen a California waffle or tortilla chips shaped like Florida. What's their excuse? Neither of those states have a "boring" shape. I guess we're the only ones with enough unashamed pride to do things like this.
6. Tradition is everything.
We have plenty of long-standing customs here in TX, from ringing in the new year with black-eyed peas and collard greens to wearing homecoming mums. These things make us who we are and foster the sense of camaraderie that sets our state apart from the rest.
7. There's tons to do both indoors...
If you're a nerd like I am, you love visiting museums. Whether you like art, history, science, or pretty much anything else, you can almost guarantee there's a museum for it in Texas. If that isn't quite up your alley, we have antique stores, shopping malls, amazing restaurants, etc...you name it, it exists in the Lone Star State.
8. ...and outdoors.
You'd have to TRY to not find something to do outside in Texas? From paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake to feeling on top of the world at Palo Duro Canyon, every corner of Texas is filled with natural beauty.
9. Road trips are never boring with all the bizarre attractions you'll see on the way.
From Cadillac Ranch to a giant pair of legs, there are definitely some interesting roadside oddities in our state. Seeing how many you can count before you reach your destination would be a fun family travel game.
10. We go out of our way to be friendly to others.
I can't tell you how many times I've been up north and had doors slammed in my face. It's not that I was oblivious - I'm just used to good old Southern hospitality!
We Texans have always known that our state is the best. What do you think is the coolest thing about the Lone Star State? Let us know!
