Sweltering temperatures in Austin mean one thing: It's time to make a splash. These swimming holes near Austin make hot temperatures so much better -- especially for those of you visiting our hot and sunny state. We may not be super close to any larger bodies of water like the ocean, but freshwater swimming is just as fine. You can find us exploring these waters throughout the year, as long as it's warm outside!
1. Jacob's Well
Editor's Note: Check the Jacob's Well website before beginning your adventure. If there isn't enough rainfall in the area, the swimming hole might be closed to the public.
Jacob's Well is about 45 minutes outside of Austin and is an artesian spring. Looks scary, but it is a very popular chill spot.
2. Krause Springs
Krause Springs is a short 30 minute trip outside of Austin and has some ultra chill waters to cool off in. It's also a great campground -- perfect for some summertime adventures.
3. Hamilton Pool
You've seen it a hundred times...but have you been? Well, you need to! This gorgeous place is one of the best swimming holes in Texas, and there's nothing else quite like it. Be sure to book your reservation far in advance -- Hamilton Pool books up quickly!
4. The Guadalupe River
This magnificent river stretches across Texas, with this lovely piece being in Kerrville, TX.
5. The Comal River stretching through New Braunfels
This is THE spot for the summer if you want to go river tubing in Texas. Call up your friends, pack a cooler full of beverages, and get ready to experience summer the authentic Texas way.
6. Deep Eddy Pool
Deep Eddy Pool is a great place to practice swimming laps. It's not as popular as Barton Springs, so you'll have a bit more room to swim and relax.
7. Barton Springs Pool
Barton Springs Pool is famous for a reason. The chilly waters and gorgeous surroundings keep people coming back again and again. For some quirky fun, come out for a 'full moon swim,' and enjoy the spectacle.
8. Hippie Hollow
If you're planning a trip to Hippie Hollow, you'll want to leave the kiddos at home. This is Texas's only clothing-optional beach. So if you're looking to be free and skinny dip -- this is the place to go!
9. Bob Wentz Park
Bob Wentz Park is home to some of the bluest waters in Austin. Whether you want to make a splash or just relax along the shore, Bob Wentz Park is a must-visit.
10. Canyon Lake
Canyon Lake is a popular day trip destination from Austin, and with views like these, it's easy to see why!
11. The Frio River
The Frio River is a 200 foot lazy river in Concan, Texas. "Frio" means cold in Spanish, so you know this place is an excellent spot to escape from the Texas heat.
