Voodoo Village is located on private property in the Memphis area, and has conjured creepy stories of eerie local run-ins for years.

Some have said they've seen dead animals hanging from the trees, others claim that their cars have shut off on the private road.

Although many don't find voodoo outside the famed-spiritual city of New Orleans, this Memphis fixture has been around since the 1950's.

At its inception, the bundle of strange art symbols and sculptures were built and designed by a local spiritual leader and healer. It was originally known as Saint Paul's Spiritual Temple.

Although most photographs of the space are obtuse, it has been noted that many of the symbols are made to reflect the Freemasons.

The colloquially named village is also skewed, according to the homeowners. Washington James Harris is the son of the famed builder, and he stated in an interview to News3, ""Sure, people said voodoo, witchcraft, and that stuff. But that ain't what it is. It's a gift from God."

Since Voodoo Village is privately owned, we wouldn't recommend sneaking a trip by. Instead, we've included the video below - it should answer those burning questions of yours.
Tennessee may also be the black sheep of America – and we’re proud of it.
