Located in Butler, this expansive and perfectly beautiful waterway is right on the Appalachian Trail and a stone’s throw from Boone, North Carolina. The Tennessee Valley Authority created the lake in the late 1940s, and we’re so very happy it did. Take a look at this piece of paradise!

Interesting fact: the dam that was created to hem in the waters of Watauga Lake is earthen, and it remains the only earthen dam ever created by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
