10 Things Every Tennessean Secretly Loves But Would Never Admit
If you’re from Tennessee, you’re probably used to talking the big talk and walking the southern walk. We have a solid reputation to uphold, and that makes a lot of sense — we’re the rough and tough Volunteer State, and we’re proud of that. If you’re looking to get into the head of a Tennessean, though, or if you’re looking for something interesting to ponder on a slow afternoon, then we have QUITE the experience for you.
1. I mean, CMA Fest isn't THAT bad…
It's actually pretty fun! And gives us all an excuse to chill out in Nashville while watching some of our favorite bands.
2. Our four seasons are a bit finicky.
We love 'em dearly, but sometimes we just have no idea what the weather is doing. Can it be autumn now?!
3. The sweet potato pancakes at Pancake Pantry really ARE that good.
Yeah yeah yeah — we know about the lines and the tourists and the heat and such. But if you get there early, like 6 in the morning, there's no wait and you really get to enjoy your pancakes, southern style.
4. Cowboy boots are 100% NOT overrated. Not at all.
This is our footwear of choice, because of the history it hearkens us back to and the sweet Tennessee memories it stirs on up.
5. We aren't too concerned with the way people fell in love with Nashville.
Honestly, it's nice to get a bit of attention these days — no matter if it's all about Music City. It's been epic for ages —welcome to our town.
6. The Civil Rights Museum is one of the most humbling places we could visit.
We have a lot of respect for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his historic acts have been forever epitomized and put on display at the converted Lorraine Motel.
7. We know we're bad drivers.
'Nuff said. We'll never say it again.
8. Touristy or not, Gatlinburg is awesome.
We love that quirky little town, buffeted by the stunning mountains to the east and the hills of Middle Tennessee to the west.
9. There's no city greater than the other.
We love Memphis and Chattanooga and Knoxville and Nashville and… well, that's really all of our big cities! But we love them all alike, no matter what the news says.
10. Hot chicken has its place.
Although you'll never hear us renounce classic fried chicken, we will admit that the spicy stuff has found a place in our hearts.
