12 Strange Habits Every Nashvillian Will Defend To The Death
The world is a strange little place, and Nashville is no different. It’s a quirky place, a fun place, a neat spot to grow up in and a wonderful city to adopt and call home. Buuuut that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few odd things that we’ll defend to the death. Curious if you do any of these things…? Because we have quite the list.
12. Life is planned AROUND football.
Except for church events - see #7.
11. Everyone runs for the hills when it comes to that tornado siren.
Here's the thing: we're smart people. We know what a tornado siren means and the extent of the damage that can occur, but there's nothing wrong with staying safe.
10. Yep, we'll be saying hi to you in the grocery store.
Tennessee breeds friendly people, and friendly people say hi to all kinds of folks. I was once a newbie in this great state, and it was the neatest thing to watch folks be kind and all inclusive, no matter where I was. What a beautiful bunch a people to surround yourself with.
9. Ain't no shame in a Civil War reenactment.
Tennessee is known as the, "Volunteer State," and we're proud of our involvement in the evolution of the United States. You'll be seeing quite a few reenactments during the warmer months and even into the fall. It's a neat form of education for your little ones, too!
8. We're pretty much obsessed with fried chicken.
Whether it's hot or not, Nashville is a southern town at heart. We ignited the national hot chicken craze, so you can thank us for that - or just come visit and enjoy the classic meal here in the south.
7. Man, we aren't very good at driving in the snow.
Did you know there is only one snow plow that services the Nashville area? It makes for some pretty slick driving conditions during the wetter months.
6. We're forever talking about the weather.
Mainly because you can never count on it…?
5. The 2nd amendment is our favorite, city or country.
Tennessee has become a much more progressive state in recent years, especially with the influx in Nashville-based transplants, but we stay true to our roots. Small government and gun rights for all - it's a powerful thing.
4. Church comes first!
It doesn't matter how roughed up Saturday night left you, buddy. We'll be seeing you at church on Sunday or you'd best be expecting a call.
3. Coke means soda.
If you're visiting Nashville or spending time in the state of Tennessee, you best mark this on your travel tips and tricks.
2. We're in love with our homey, legendary eateries.
There's the Loveless Café, Varallo's, Tootsie's….we're bursting with neat old places, a representation of where we were and how far we've come.
1. But we're never afraid to try something new!
Nashville supports the history of the city, but we're always pushing our culinary boundaries. This shot is from Henrietta Red, a new seafood-centric eatery that just opened in Music City.
