The Charming Small Town Near Nashville Best Explored By Bike
Franklin isn’t the smallest town around – let’s be honest here. If you’re counting the entirety of the city, it can be a bit sprawling. It’s their downtown that takes the cake, though, known for its small town feel and sweet seasonal festivals. Did you know that it’s also one of the greatest cities outside of Nashville to explore by bike? Cycle through the sweet place for an afternoon, and you’ll feel as if you’ve gone straight back to Mayberry.
While Franklin has a population of over 65,000 people, it's not much of a small town on paper, but there's a reason that it's called "America's Favorite Main Street." The historic preservation, friendly citizens, and many local shops give it a homey, small town feel.
If you're looking for the perfect place to explore on bike, look no further than Franklin. Franklin's many parks, beautiful neighborhoods, and idyllic downtown make it the perfect small town to bike around.
The City of Franklin's park system features over 14 miles of paved and natural turf greenways and paths that are open for hiking and biking.
The best bike path in town is the Franklin Greenway, which hugs the winding Harpeth River through downtown Franklin. Be sure to explore the parks that are connected by the path! And be careful of Civil War reenactments - you just may hear a couple of pops as the historic city plays homage to its heritage.
The quiet side streets of Franklin allow for perfect, calm bike rides through the city. There are so many historical places around town that you'll likely learn a lot about the Civil War just by riding around.
No matter where you end up, be sure to bike up and down Franklin's historic downtown Main Street. The 16-block district is on the National Register and features many antique shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants for when you're ready for a break.
