Tennessee is known for its great beauty, but sometimes its easy to get caught up in the weeds of it all. Sure, hiking through our luscious hill country and make your way through our blooming meadows is lovely, but what if you could find yourself high above it all, taking it all in from the heavens? It sounds wonderful, and in south Tennessee (and a little bit of Georgia — hi neighbor!), you can indulge in the prettiest of views.
Lookout Mountain has long been a tourist attraction just outside of Chattanooga, an ordinary lookout that offers up an extraordinary view.
There are actually three attractions under the moniker of, "Lookout Mountain," including the underground wonder of Ruby Falls and the Incline Railway alongside the view of Rock City.
You can reach the very top of this stunning rocky ledge by riding the Incline Railway, which also happens to be the steepest passenger railway in the world.
The view from inside your safe train car is incredible and just the beginning. It's been moving passengers since 1895, as is considered a National Historic site as well as a landmark of mechanical engineering. It's $15 an adult and $7 a child to ride.
Rock City, however, is where you'll find the view that offers up a shocking expanse that stretches over seven states. If you combine your railway ticket with Rock City and Ruby Falls, your price for entry will come to $49.90 for adults and $27.90 for children.
Rock City is only six miles from the middle of downtown Chattanooga and offers up insane views from Lover's Leap and the 100-foot waterfall that crests its rocky ledges.
You'll be able to take a self-guided tour across the mountain, from high above Tennessee. You'll want to make sure that you check out the local event calendar, too! Special events are common and fun to attend, whether you're headed to the 7 States Flag Court or looking for a fun holiday season adventure.
You can make your way to Rock City at 1400 Patten Road in Lookout Mountain, GEORGIA. Yep, you heard us right — Tennessee and Georgia share this beautiful spot, and we're always more than happy to give our southern neighbor a shoutout. Don't forget though, friends, that Lookout Mountain has more than enough beauty for the whole nation to enjoy, much less two states. Have fun!
Beautiful, wouldn't you say? You can continue to indulge in the gorgeous Tennessee outdoors with a day spent tubing on one of our stunning rivers.
