Located right on Shoal Creek in some of the prettiest countryside scenery you’ve ever seen, it’s a beautiful place to revisit the natural history of the state.

David Crockett State Park is named after the famed settler of the same name, the colloquially titled "Davey Crockett," who settled in the area in the early 1800s. He started a distillery, grist mill, and even a powder mill by harnessing the energy of the creek's water.

In just three years Crockett managed to own over 600 acres of nearby land and he served as one of the first commissioners and justices of the peace in the area. Crockett eventually moved to West Tennessee, but his reputation was firmly in place.

The area was cordoned into a park in 1959 with an area of 1,100 acres, and it included the site of Crockett's early mills and distillery. You can now see reconstructions of the mills and even the old dam.

There's even a 40-acre lake now, one that allows for fishing and boating. There are 7 two-bedroom visitor cabins in the park as well, along with a restaurant and two primitive campgrounds.
