The Bell Witch Cave has made a pretty solid reputation of itself here in Tennessee. Located in Adams, just outside of Nashville, you can explore one of the most terrifyingly haunted spots in the United States with a tour running through the heart of the Bell family farm. The Bell Witch Cave is on an otherwise inconspicuous farm in Adams, Tennessee. As legend has it, the small cave on the property was once home to a truly nefarious witch.
The witch haunted the Bell family for four years, starting in 1817. The family reported eerie, wailing sounds on the grounds of the farm, the sounds of chains being dragged through their house, and some family members were even choked by an invisible spirit.
The patriarch of the family, John Bell, is said to have been killed by the witch herself. He died from an unexplained poisoning, and records from the time suggest that the witch claimed credit for the death.
The cave in which the witch lived is still open today, and you can take tours! Tours often point out the eerie characteristics of the cave, and there are countless accounts of people feeling the presence of supernatural forces there.
The cave is only about 500 feet long, but that's more than enough to spook you. You never know what you'll find in the Bell Witch's Cave, but let's just say there's a reason this legend has stuck around for more than 200 years.
Tours of the cave are $12 and are offered on Saturdays and Sundays in May, every day but Tuesday from June through Labor Day, and back to Saturdays and Sundays through Halloween. They do have special nighttime tours around Halloween, so be sure to check it out!
