Some of the bluest, most pristine waters are hiding right under our noses—like in the iconic Texas Hill Country! Los Rios Campground is located right on the crystal-clear Nueces River, one of the most underrated swimming spots in the state. Make a splash at one of the best Texas campgrounds for a summer to remember.
Hiding in the small town of Camp Wood, TX, which has fewer than 600 permanent residents, Los Rios Texas is located right on the pristine Nueces River. It's the perfect escape from reality, offering a classic Hill Country experience—minus the crowds.
Easily among the most underrated rivers in Texas, the Nueces is reminiscent of a faraway island paradise. Surrounded by lush greenery, its turquoise waters are practically beckoning you to jump right in.
As you swim, the silhouettes of iconic Central Texas hills tower high up into the clouds. Enjoy some peace and quiet—a rarity compared to other area rivers—as you leisurely float along the gentle current.
Go back and forth between immersing yourself in the blue-green waters and lounging on the sand, all the while soaking up the blissful sunshine. It's a middle-of-nowhere getaway, just a short drive from the charming shops and restaurants of Camp Wood.
Ten riverfront cabins feature between one and five beds, in addition to anywhere from a half-bath to two full baths. Each one is equipped with AC/heat, a microwave, a mini fridge, a coffee maker, a BBQ grill, and a fire pit, with rates starting at just $140 per night. Four tiny homes are also available for rent.
RV and primitive campsites are also available and generally cost less than the cabins. No matter what accommodations you decide on, make sure to step outside and marvel at the night sky glimmering with millions of stars.
If you're in search of a summer vacation spot yet to be overrun by tourists, look no further than a Los Rios Campground camping trip. Despite being located in one of the most populous regions of the state, it still manages to provide a secluded getaway in an enchanting, tropical oasis environment.
